Autumn Nature WalkThe dog days of summer are long gone and it’s time to dig out a warm sweater and venture outside on a brisk October day. When you’re cooped up indoors on blustery winter days you’ll be glad you took advantage of the great outdoors!
The natural world can provide boundless stimulation to you and your baby. The crisp breeze will brighten the complexion and leave you feeling invigorated. Stomp through piles of colourful leaves and feel them crunch underfoot. Count yellow school buses and wave to the kids on their way to school. Watch closely for formations of Canada geese flying to sunnier destinations and bushy-tailed squirrels stocking up on acorns for the winter.
Make sure you take a basket with you to collect treasures you find along your way. If pushing your baby in the stroller, stop often and let her touch or smell autumn’s bounty. Look for acorns, waxy red maple leaves, and autumn flowers such as Golden Rod, Queen Anne’s lace, Coxcomb, and bright orange Chinese Lanterns. Why not press leaves and flowers between wax paper and add to your baby’s scrapbook!
For toddlers, you can take your Nature Walk a step further, and enjoy these simple crafts:
-Leaf Etchings
-Apple Prints (you can cut apples from top to bottom, or along the middle for two different prints)
-Harvest Collage
