Hi all.

My (exclusively breastfed) DD was born at 5lbs, 2oz full term plus. She was obviously very tiny, but was pronounced totally healthy.

She gained weight quickly in the first three months, going to 11 lbs by her 3 month checkup no problem. Unfortunately, after that she didn't really gain weight at all. She stayed around 11 lbs, gaining only an ounce or so here and there, and was 11.6 lbs at her six-month appointment.

We had switched pediatricians for her 6 month appt, and we mentioned to him about her lack of weight gain. He said he wasn't concerned as she'd met all of her milestones and seemed healthy and strong. He suggested that perhaps going on solids would do the trick.

We've had her on solids now for a month, she turned 7 months today, and she's gone up to 12.4 lbs or so, according to our home scale. Doesn't seem like the thriving weight gain I was hoping for to catch her up for the last 4 months but maybe I'm wrong.

Should I be concerned? She's eating the solids fairly well (though she refuses a lot of flavours, but we keep trying them and feeding her old standards if she won't eat them, since I figure right now her gaining weight takes precedent over teaching her to eat peas). I'm still breastfeeding 5 times a day on top of the solids 3 times a day. Pooping relatively well (though a little constipated at times) and peeing great.

Thoughts?

It sounds like you're doing everything right. And don't forget, she's already doubled her birth weight in six months. That's pretty great.
Be diligent about keeping track of your daughter's weight and be sure to bring any and all concerns to your pediatrician. It sounds like she just may be a petite girl.
Don't worry about the constipation -- totally normal when you switch to solids. And don't worry about he peas. I can't get my husband to eat peas.
