Ten Backyard Activities For BabyYou don’t have to go far to have fun with your newborn this summer. In fact, your own backyard may be one of the best places to laugh and play the day away. Here is our list of fun things you and your little one can do in your own backyard this Summer:
1. Have a picnic! Get out a blanket, your picnic basket, and head out your back door. Pack some yummy food and enjoy a meal outdoors.
2. Go on a nature expedition! Show your little one the flowers, trees, bugs, and birds. Talk to your little one about the colours you can see, the sounds you can hear, the textures you can feel, and the scents you can smell.
3. Paint with water! Get out some paint brushes, sponges and a bucket of water. Let your little one dip the brushes and sponges into the water and paint their toys, lawn furniture, deck, or whatever else inspires your little Picasso.
4. Do some gardening! Get a toy watering can, rake, shovel and pail, and let your little one help you garden. Let them try pulling out weeds, planting flowers or digging in the dirt.
5. Make an obstacle course! Set up some hula hoops and skipping ropes. Encourage your little one to crawl, walk or jump in and out of the hula hoops. Lay the skipping ropes out and let your little one crawl, walk or jump over them.
6. Turn on the sprinkler! Sprinklers not only cool you off on a hot sunny day, they’re also lots of fun. Some little ones will be excited to put their tiny feet and hands in the water while a few brave babies may go for a full body shower.
7. Set up a sandbox! Throw in some toy pails, shovels, rakes, sieves, cars, trucks and any other toys your little one likes. When you’re finished playing in the sandbox be sure to put a lid on it so that the local animals don’t use it as a litter box.
8. Get out the kids pool! Add some rubber ducks, toy fish and fishing rods, boats, squirting toys, shovels and pails and your little one will be ready to splash the day away.
9. Have a throw-and-kick-athon! Get an assortment of balls and frisbees that are different colours, sizes and textures. Throw them, roll them, kick them, and catch them.
10. Bubbles! Summertime backyard fun wouldn’t be complete without bubbles. There are small bubbles, large bubbles, and even bubbles you can hold. You can chase bubbles, pop them, catch them, or just sit back, relax and watch them float away…
So, head outside your back door and enjoy the Summer weather!
