Spring Events Calendar

Spring has sprung and there is no denying the promise of warmer days just around the corner. With a squish underfoot, winter is finally thawing its way out of sight and out of mind. Time to trade in the snow pants for rain boots and start jumping in some puddles! And if you’re looking for anything else to occupy your family, here are a few springtime suggestions.

Get Outside

Of all the major cities in Canada, the good people of Winnipeg are perhaps the most deserving of some fairer weather. There’s so much pent-up hibernation anxiety that needs to be expelled like a demon. Get outside, people! Take a hike. Go for a bike ride. Or just enjoy some afternoon sunshine from a park bench perch. Babies need fresh air too, and can take in the view from a backpack or stroller! Here are some great places to get your outdoor fix:

Explore more than 600 acres of prairie, lakes, forest and wetlands. Highlights include a 70-acre Bison Prairie and viewing mound, more than 5 km of trails, a unique family treehouse, birdfeeding stations, floating boardwalks, and wildlife in their natural habitat.

Find your favourite park, pack up the family, and go exploring!

Where: Assiniboine Park
When: Sunday, May 31st

Join over 35,000 parents, children, and stuffed bears in this annual celebration of children and children’s health. The Teddy Bears’ Picnic is a free event held in Assiniboine Park, with activities packed with fun for the entire family! All proceeds directly support the Children’s Hospital Foundation.

When: June 4th-11th, 2009
Where:  The Forks

Winnipeg’s annual Kidsfest is back at the Forks from June 4th to 11th in 2009. This popular festival both entertains and educates children through live music, theater, storytelling, comedy and puppetry. Mark it on your calendars and stay tuned for ticket information!

When: March 28, 2009,

On March 28th, at 8:30 pm, Winnipeg and its residents will join millions of people around the world in turning off the lights for Earth Hour. This annual event is a global lights-out phenomenon, coordinated by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Let’s come together and support real action on climate change.

Spring Cleaning

Spring is the perfect time to clean and purge. Out with the old and in with the new! If you’re a parent, you know that last year’s clothes just won’t do. They grow like weeds!
