Staying Energized During PregnancyDon’t let that baby bump get in the way! Physical activity during pregnancy should be fun and easy. With all the changes that are happening in the body it’s sometimes hard to know where to begin. Here are the super 7 ways to stay energized throughout your pregnancy.
1. Walk it out
If you are worried about over-exerting yourself walking is the best way to start. Your body is already familiar with this activity! Keep your walking routine regular at 2-3 times per week.
2. Swimming
Swimming is an example of a low risk activity because in water you are not weight bearing. It utilizes large and small muscle groups to help keep you strong during your 9 months.
3. Kegel Exercises
It’s important to strengthen your pelvic floor to ease labour and delivery. Remember that quality of this exercise is important vs. quantity. If you are unsure of how to perform this exercise properly, consult your doctor or midwife.
4. Dance Classes
Exercise can still be fun. Check out your local community for dance classes involving expectant moms. One of the most popular trends is belly dancing!! Just remember to avoid any impact dance-so put away your tap shoes until baby is born!
5. Yoga Group
This one you can do in the comfort of your own home! Yoga and pregnancy DVDs are quite the trend… so call over some other mommy-to-bes, pop in a DVD, and get stretching. This is a great way to combat emotional changes of pregnancy as well.
6. Golf
Whether you are an avid golfer or looking to start, golf is a great way to stay active during your pregnancy. If you want to work on balance, stability, core strength and your competitive spirit, golf is your best choice. Clearance from your doctor and/or midwife is highly recommended here.
7. Stationary Bike
Your bike should no longer be used to hang laundry from! Dust of that bike and hop on. The great thing about biking is it supports your weight, and being stationary decreases the risk of slips and falls. Doing this activity at home for even 10 minutes a day can give your body that boost of energy it is looking for.
